Found it again on Amazon.com. My 'tween son loves fiction.
Similar books: "Mara: An Alaskan Weasel." That book was more a work of fiction, but similar in how it followed an animal around. He was a little miffed that I didn't give him heads-up on the ending.
He also read this book. It's in the vein of the James Herriot / All Creatures books.
Read this book when I was a 'tween. I only read non-fiction as a kid; I never liked fiction for some reason and still don't.
But it's just another book in the pile of non-fiction animal books I read when I was young.
A friend told me about this book. Excellent, GOOD read and educational as well, good for the whole family.
I know I will never touch quail on my plate again. I would read chapters to her as would my sister during times she couldn't sleep or rest well. I have read this book three times and it is just a heartwarming and sweet every time. My first experience with "Robert" was while my mother was in declining health and bedbound. Our whole family fell hard for this darling little quail.
Thank you Margaret Stanger, wherever you are. I read this many, many moons ago (I mean as a youngster in the late 60's) and when it popped up on my Amazon face page it made me smile and feel happy inside. This and the book Mr Popper's Penguins were my favorite "comfort" books as a child- and I don't even consider myself a bird person.
What wonderful creatures God has made. I am thankful that I got to spend some time with Robert. It warms the heart. I loved the story then and now. Somehow I lost the book and was afraid I would never find another copy. I first read this book many years ago when I was a young girl. It is one of my favorite books. It will make you both laugh and cry.
